Sun Quan orders Zhou Yu to be the main general and Cheng Pu to be his deputy, leading 30,000 elite naval troops, together with Liu Bei's army stationed at Fan Kou, a total of about 50,000 men to move westward along the Yangtze River to meet Cao's army. Sun and Liu allied forces confronted Cao's army at Chibi. Cao Cao linked his warships together as one, so that he could practice his navy and wait for an opportunity to attack. Zhou Yu adopts the fire attack plan proposed by his general Huang Gai and has him send a letter to Cao Cao to fraudulently surrender.
