The incident, according to Zagazola Makama, a Chad Basin security expert and impeccable sources, occurred between 7 am and 8 am on Monday, when the 18-seater vehicle conveying the victims to their farms ran over the IED. “The six farmers and the driver were confirmed dead, seven others were also severely injured,” a top official of the Civilian Joint Task Force in Bama, Bukar Ibrahim, confirmed to The PUNCH on the phone. Another reliable source in the CJTF, Musa Idrissa, said, “Those dead could be more than seven because shattered remains of bodies were later found and packed.” The 7 Division of the Nigerian Army and the Borno State Police Command spokesmen could not be immediately reached for their comments. The Bama-Firgi-Pulka-Gwoza Road is one of the roads in Borno where Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists have repeatedly launched attacks, including planting landmines.
