by Joshua Biem

The Ekiti State Police Command has arraigned a 32-year-old man, Alaba Lamidi, before an Ado Ekiti Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a phone valued at N100,000. The police prosecutor, Yomi Osuolale, told the court on Wednesday that the defendant allegedly “stole a Tecno POP 2 phone valued at N100,000 belonging to one Garba Umar.”

Osuolale alleged that the defendant committed the offence sometime in December 2023 at about 12 pm at the Atikankan Area in Ado Ekiti, the state capital. “The offence contravened and is punishable by Section 302 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021,” the prosecutor stated. He, however, urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the file and assemble his witnesses. Counsel to the defendant, Mrs Adunni Olanipekun, urged the court to grant the defendant bail.

Olanipekun, who promised the court that the defendant would not jump bail, said that she would provide credible surety. The Magistrate, Mrs Olubunmi Bamidele, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N20,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case till March 21 for a hearing. The state police operatives had arrested five suspected kidnappers around the Iju Ikere boundary area of the state, according to a statement issued by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Abutu Sunday. PUNCH Online had reported that gunmen suspected to be herdsmen, killed two traditional rulers in the state. The incident was said to have happened between Oke-Ako and Ipao-Ekiti in Ajoni Local Government Area of the state.
