News Reports Kano Residents Stage Peaceful Protest against Soaring Food Prices by Joshua Biem February 9, 2024 Published by Joshua Biem February 9, 2024 7 Residents of the ancient city of Kano trooped out in large numbers to stage a peaceful protest over the high cost of food, lamenting that the economic situation has worsened daily. Speaking on behalf of the protesters, Malam Usman Saidu Bello, of Rijiyan Lemo, Kano, said that the harsh economic situation has caused untold hardship to the teeming masses of the state. Mallam Usman said, “We, the masses, cast votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu; it would not be good of him not to listen to our complaints and address the economic pathetic we are facing.” He noted that pretending that all is well is dangerous. Let those people closer to Mr. President tell him that it is true that the masses are suffering and dying of hunger. The large turnout of the protesters, who thronged the popular streets in Katsina roads, then expressed their grievances in the Hausa language, saying that they had been pushed to the wall, hence the need for them to come out despite the harmattan beating them. According to him, “Everybody is worried about the situation, hence the need for us to come out and express our displeasure over the situation.” He added that “the situation is worrisome, which prompted us to stage this protest for the government to come to our rescue. He added that because of this ugly situation, we are forced to come out to the streets to express our displeasure over the situation. Mallam Bello then recalled that nowadays “People cannot eat three square meals, adding that even the one square meal is now becoming difficult, as a bag of rice, which sold for N7,000, now attracts N70,000.” According to him, “Sugar, which was sold for N8,000, now goes for N75,000. “We want the government to intervene and come out to our aid; we can no longer bear the ugly situation.” Source: Tribune Online 0 comments 0 FacebookTwitterPinterestEmail Joshua Biem previous post Federal Government Sends Troops To Ekiti State next post 14 Abducted Abuja-Bound Passengers Rescued – Police You may also like Three Sentenced To Death In Iran Over Killing...
