Petrol queues worsen in Abuja as pump price increases

by Nextier SPD

Petrol scarcity in parts of the country has lingered as motorists throng filling stations for the product.

On September 3, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited raised the price of premium motor spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, across its retail outlets. The price of the product was increased to N855 per litre in Lagos while it was sold for N897 in Abuja.

The upward adjustment comes amid a petrol scarcity which has strained business activities nationwide. Speaking to TheCable on Wednesday, residents Lagos said the situation has made it tough for them to cope. The publication also observed that while most filling stations in the Karu area of Abuja were not operating, those selling the products had long queues. Vehicle owners said the new pricing is not sustainable, demanding reversal to the previous pump price.

Commuters also lamented that despite the increase, the commodity is still scarce, leading to frustrations.
