Police Arrest 44 Suspects, Introduce KAM’ DIBI FRATA to Flush Out Criminals in Borno

Borno State Police Command has paraded 44 suspects arrested for various crimes ranging from burglary, possession of illicit drugs, handsets snatching, theft, among others.

The state Police Commissioner, CP Muhammad Lawan Yahaya at a press briefing held at the Command Headquarters in Maiduguri on Tuesday, said the state has been relatively peaceful and the security situation across the state has remained stable.

The police boss, who was represented by the command’s spokesman, ASP Daso Kenneth, said the Security situation within Maiduguri municipality has witnessed the phenomenal rise in reported cases of handset snatching and youth involvement in social vices within their neighborhood.

He said: “Consequently, the command has put in place measures to stem the tide by declaring operation “KAM’ DIBI FRATA” (Flush out criminals) the operation has yielded positive results leading to the arrest of suspects, recovery of exhibits and increase the risks through surveillance, stop and search and constant raids of criminal hideouts.

“A total number of 22 suspects were arrested in possession of various drugs and illicit substances which includes; 500 pieces of D5 tablets, 1 shisha pot 164 wraps of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, 1 bottle containing substances suspected to be suck & die, 5 cards and 37 pieces of tramadol capsules, 1 pentor injection, 2 sharp knives and the sum of N200,000 used in buying and selling of drugs

“The command also raided some areas during its covert operation and sustained surveillance patrols has led to the arrest of 14 suspects at various locations within the metropolitan city. The following exhibits and items have were recovered – 11 handsets/mobile phones, 2 tricycle (Keke Napep, 1 bottle of quinidine syrup and 3 capsules of retinol pills,” Lawan said.

According to him, the command further said three (3) suspects were arrested at Moronti Area: One Shettima Mohammed 18 yrs ‘m’ of Moronti, Abdulhamid Isah 16 yrs ‘m’ and Ndume Mohammed ‘m’ 18 yrs of the same address, the suspects broke into a store belonging to an NGO and stole five cartons of maggi star valued one hundred and twenty thousand naira N120, 000, five packets of spaghetti valued seventy five thousand naira N75, 000. The suspects have confessed to the crime and case will be charged to court after investigation.

He added following a credible tip-off, one Babagana Mohammed ‘m’ of Ngarnam Area Maiduguri, was arrested in possession of two rams and two sheep all valued two hundred thousand naira (N200, 000). Upon investigation, the suspect confessed to have stolen the animals, from Gubio village and conveyed it in his white Golf II car with Reg. No. AE 280 MNG (Borno).

” Similarly, One Bashir Mohammed ‘m’ of Duja village in Gubio LGA, later surface on 12/05/2024 and identify the domestic animals to be his property. Investigation has commenced towards unveiling his past atrocities, case will soon be charged to court for prosecution”, he said.

The CP said four (4) suspects one Mohammed Umar ‘M” 28yrs, Abba Musa 25yrs, Ahmed Saleh 34yrs and Usman Saleh 21yrs were arrested by Bulumkutu Police Patrol team in an attempt to steal a keke Napep from one Ahmed Ali.

“The mastermind of the crime one Mohammed Umar m’ 28yrs chartered his tricycle along GSM Market Bulumkutu to Pompomari Bypass Area Maiduguri while on their way the said Mohammed Umar gave the keke rider a Maltonic Drink which has quinidine syrup. The victim ignorantly drank the maltonic and he fell down unconscious.

“The suspect took his tricycle and conspired with his remaining accompanist in an attempt to dispose the victim. Police patrol team while on patrol swing to action and apprehended the suspects. The case is still under investigation and will soon be charged to court,” Lawan said.

He reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring public safety and restoration of peace and security in Borno State, while calling on the good people of Borno State to report any suspicious activities within their domain through the following emergency contacts *08068075581, 08023473293..

The commissioner of police also urged passengers riding on Keke Napep to be conscious of their personal belongings and watch carefully the passengers they meet within.
